This special edition artwork, titled “just one of those things #002,” is from a new series of work made at the relaunch of the High Heel Project. When Katayama first touched Sergio Rossi’s high heels, they reminded her of the silver slippers from The Wizard of Oz that can transport Dorothy anywhere in the world by clicking her heels together three times. Katayama created this work by layering a variety of cut-outs of legs and high heels on top of her self-portrait, hopeful that she might walk wherever she wishes with the legs and high heels she selected, and to meet “new legs” she has not yet encountered. Each work comes with an original frame Katayama created to serve as a bridge between the photograph and the “here and now” in which we exist. Katayama’s practice has always involved handiwork, and for the special edition, the artist will decorate each frame with iconic materials of her artworks such as seashells, Swarovski crystals and pearls to create unique frames.
